H.E.A.R.T. Haiti Emergency Art Recovery Team

 Returns to the States

Charcoal drawings of faces and boats, watercolors of landscapes and the beach, book making, story-telling and photography of everyday life in the neighborhoods are a few of the examples the children created with the H.E.A.R.T team during the one week stay in Delmas Haiti. The team worked with over 125 children ages 2-19. In the morning, the team worked with the “Let the Children” Mission in Delmas and in the afternoon with a children’s center. The children and adults responded very positively to the art classes and embraced the opportunity to learn about new mediums and methods. At the end of the week, children from the mission participated in an exhibition of their work with an opening reception while the children center performed in an art parade proudly marching through the neighborhood with their creations.

The Noyes Museum will be putting together an exhibition of the children’s work at the Atlantic City Airport’s ArtPort this coming January. A full exhibition featuring paintings and sculpture celebrating Haitian Culture and a photography exhibition of Haitian life will open this January at the Noyes Museum at both the Oceanville and Hammonton locations.

Project H.E.A.R.T (Haiti Emergency Art Relief Team) is a multi-focused mission between the Noyes Museum of Art of Richard Stockton College, Vivant Art Gallery, Stockton College, Atlantic City Airport and South Jersey Transportation Authority’s ArtPort. On August 9th, a four member team traveled to Haiti, they included: Michael Cagno, Executive Director of the Noyes, who resides in Vineland, NJ; Dorrie Papademetriou, Director of Exhibitions and Collections of the Noyes, who resides in Linwood, NJ; Celeste Safeer, a Stockton College student, who resides in Hammonton, NJ; and Florcy Morrisset, owner of Vivant Art Gallery in Philadelphia, who resides in Philadelphia.

The Yo Emerging Artists! Project of South Jersey (YEA!) is a series of events that will provide professional opportunities for emerging artists from South Jersey and the surrounding region. This program was created to recognize emerging artists representing a diversity of styles and media who wish to establish themselves in a professional career. Throughout the year a series of exhibitions and events will be presented at partnering venues beginning October 2010 and throughout 2011

Leave the tight, drab, laborious style behind and take your landscapes to a new level.
Marie will guide you on a journey exploring your inner artist, showing you a fearless method of using the vibrancy of color, and understanding the importance of color theory and value contrasts in your work. Be amazed at the fresh, clean, luminous results when using proper brush technique and the direct painting method. Students will work on museum grounds capturing the serene beauty of Lily Lake, learning how to handle lush green foliage, and the basics of landscape composition. Students will work using triads to change mood, atmosphere, or capture the late summer season. For those wishing to paint in the cool, air-conditioned interior, the museum provides many outdoor venues from its glass windows and a new elevated deck facing Lily Lake.

Week #1 – The Nature of Art Camp*

June 28 – July 2: 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. (Regis. deadline: 6/14)
Explore the beautiful wooded lakeside surroundings of the Noyes Museum of Art (as weather permits), observing nature and gathering materials for your art projects during this fun camp. Participants can start an artsy nature journal, sketch nature, and make beautiful leaf rubbings and “smushings”. Make your own clay “fossils”, colorful sun catchers, recycled birdhouses and a plaster tree or animal sculpture then go “hands on” with a group finger paint mural. Instructor: C. Safeer

Week #2 – Art Around the World Camp*:
Monday, July 5 – Friday, July 9: 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. (Regis. deadline: 6/21)
Participate in an art-filled multicultural journey to Holland, Africa, Australia, China, & Mexico. Each day students will record their ideas in a hand-crafted sketchbook, create culturally relevant art and illustrate a postcard representing their travels. Create Dutch “Delft” pottery, African masks, Australian aboriginal map paintings, Chinese fish kites and an Aztec mythical creature group sculpture. Instructor: L. Lichtenstein

A week of groovy hands-on art projects focusing on creative self-expression. Maria will be giving a one hour presentation about Latino’s in the arts. Her lecture will include information about her work as well as details about her work process. Mish Mash Strikes Back:

Contemporary Clay Redefined

March 4 - June 13, 2010

Opening Reception: March 19, 2010, 5-8 p.m.

Nineteen nationally acclaimed artists stretch the limitations of not only the physical properties of clay, but also the perception of what clay art can be. The voices of fringe, emerging or non-traditional ceramic artists are presented in imaginative applications. The artists engage the viewer by creating mystery or seeking a truth through the manipulation of the medium in an attempt to cause stimulation of the senses. Mish-Mash Strikes Back is part of the South Jersey Clay Tour that includes one-hundred and fifty artists in fourteen different exhibitions at eleven venues across six southern NJ counties.

HAMMONTON, NJ - In this exhibit images from “wild” or ancient places are juxtaposed with the beauty just outside your door, illustrating that the love of the land and its creatures is universal. A native of San Diego, David Carr has traveled the world with camera in hand. His talent is captured here in the natural beauty of New Jersey along with photos from his travels to Tanzania, Alaska, the American West and beyond. The show continues through April 10, 2010.

David L. Carr – Dr. Carr is Provost and Executive Vice President at Richard Stockton where he served as Dean of Social and Behavioral Sciences, and Vice President for Academic Affairs prior to his appointment as Provost in 2003. Carr takes many shots of local Osprey, the Richard Stockton College mascot, and campus scenes for use in campus publications. His most visible work is the pair of Osprey on the side of the Stockton Sports Center. Dr. Carr and his wife, Beverly, are residents of Galloway Township.

“Stockton-Noyes Holds Pre-Show Reception

for V-Day Hammonton Production”

HAMMONTON- In celebration of the new partnership between The Richard Stockton College of New Jersey and the Noyes Museum, a special pre-show reception will be held at the Noyes Museum in Hammonton on Saturday, February 27th at 6:30 prior to the closing performance of “The Vagina Monologues”. During this reception, audience members will have the opportunity to speak to members of the cast and learn more about the work of the Atlantic County Women’s Center, this year’s beneficiary for the proceeds of this production.

The Vagina Monologues” will be performed at The Eagle Theatre on Friday and Saturday, February 26th and 27th at 8PM. Tickets are $15 for general admission, $13 for seniors and students, and can be purchased in advance online by visiting http://www.theeagletheatre.com/

The Noyes Museum of Art presents an exploration on a unique area. From the Marshlands to the Ocean, March 18 – May 30, 2010 feature a unique range of works. An opening reception is scheduled for Friday, March 19 from 5 to 8 p.m.

From the Marshlands to the Ocean selects a specific region of New Jersey and explores it. The Marshlands are an untouched area and the exhibition provides insight into to these locations. The works featured are dynamic. The artists are calculated in their technique. The exhibit illustrates what the artists see. It honors the land that we walk upon and at times forget.
Featured artists include painters Greg Bennett, Michael Budden, Neal McPheeters, Stan Sperlak, Pat Witt and sculptor Don Friel. All of whom are local to New Jersey.

The Noyes Museum of Art has signed an agreement with Stockton College today. We are now The Noyes Museum of Art of Richard Stockton College. This unique partnership will benefit not only the two organizations, but the community at large. We have always partnered with the college but now it is more formal. As for the museum, this will increase the capacity to provide programs, events, and exhibitions. It will also allow the museum to strengthen its educational platform. As for Stockton, they are now providing a BFA program and builidng a new gallery. The museum will provide opportunities for students and faculty to participate in new and exciting programs.
