HAMMONTON, N.J. - The Noyes Museum of Art in Hammonton is pleased to present our latest exhibition featuring the work of artist Frank Kallop. An opening reception of his work will be held on November 7, 2008 in conjunction with “Arts on the Avenue”. Various locations will be providing refreshments, live music, and entertainment in participation with this event and the “Arts on the Avenue”.

As a New Jersey resident artist Kallop balances his duties both as an artist and as an Art professor of the Richard Stockton College of New Jersey. When Kallop is not creating he takes time to hold drawing and painting workshops in Linwood, N.J. Frank received his B.F.A from the San Francisco Art Institute, and went on to study at the New York Academy of Art where he received his Master’s degree. Kallop received rigorous training in painting, figure drawing, and traditional illusionist techniques while attending the New York Academy of Art and studied with other accomplished artists such as Edward Schmidt, Patrick Connors and Vincent Desiderio.
The work of Frank Kallop explores elements of symbolism, and fuses surreal and realist techniques to create a truly unique piece of art. Frank’s works depicts the eternal themes of happiness, regret, suffering, and loss while challenging the viewer to ponder life’s most difficult emotions and queries. Kallop’s work has been exhibited both locally and nationally in galleries and museums across the country. His works have appeared in various national publications such as the New York Daily News and Artbeat Magazine.

The Teachers Workshop was held on October 21st. What a great event! Over 40 teachers from the region earned professions development hours at the Noyes.

"I WILL SURVIVE" An art exhibit by breast cancer survivors and caregivers sponsored by The New Jersey State Council on the Arts, South Jersey Cultural Alliance, and The Noyes Museum of Art was held last night in Atlantic City. Over 600 guests participated in the Fifth Annual Breast Health Signature Event. Seventeen artists who are survivors and caregivers participated. This is part of The Healing Arts at AtlantiCare.

The Noyes Museum of Art-Hammonton participated in Hammonton's downtown Halloween event. Family and friends visited the Noyes for treats. While children created their own art on the sidewalks with chalk, parents visit the Noyes gallery.

Family Fun Day

Our exciting annual fall family event features pumpkin painting, a Halloween costume parade, hands-on arts and crafts, face painting and kayaking on Lily Lake.

New activities include: a drum-building workshop presented by The International House of Blues Foundation, a group bamboo sculpture project led by artist Harry Bower, a marine-life touch tank from the Atlantic City Aquarium, artist demonstrations and a pond discovery walk.

Michael Waters, a former fashion illustrator in from New York City, exhibits his work at the Noyes Museum of Art - Hammonton. Influenced by the beauty of nature, his paintings consist of images derived entirely from imagination. Now a resident of Ventnor, NJ, Michael invites the viewer to look closely at his compositions and absorb the landscape of shapes and colors.

Ilona Sochynsky Opens a Solo Exhibition

Moving to abstraction by unraveling and deconstructing, Ilona reconstructs images by combining them into one surface. Fragments captivate the viewer to reveal something familiar but yet unknown. Her work pushes the boundaries of the canvas in an exploration of spatial and sculptural possibilities.

naturalist Doug Wechsler

A FREE program presented by the Atlantic County Library System and the Noyes Museum of Art

Atlantic County residents are lucky to have huge areas of salt marsh nearby. But, have you looked closely to see what lives in these flooded meadows? Doug Wechsler has and he will give you an up-close look at salt marshes and their residents. He will explain why they are so important to us, as well as to the wildlife that inhabit them. Wechsler will also talk about the process of creating, writing and photographing his new book, Marvels in the Muck: Life in the Salt Marshes. Afterwards we will walk with Wechsler to a real salt marsh at the Edwin B. Forsythe National Wildlife Refuge. (continued on next page)
Doug Wechsler is Director of VIREO (Video Resources for Ornithology) at the Academy of Natural Sciences. VIREO is the most comprehensive bird image bank in the world. Contributors to the collection include some of the world's most talented wildlife photographers. (www.ansp.org/research/vireo/)

Doug has written 22 books for children, entirely or partly illustrated with his photographs. His most recent book, Frog Heaven: The Ecology of a Vernal Pool, was a finalist for the American Association for the Advancement of Science/Subaru/SBF award and received the Green Earth Book Honor. For his next book, Marvels in the Muck: Life in the Salt Marshes, Doug paddled into numerous tidal marshes with his wife, Debbie, and his camera, photographing diamondback terrapins, clapper rails, and hoards of fiddler crabs. Doug’s photography can be seen in Audubon, National Wildlife, Natural History, and in numerous other publications ranging from National Geographic to The National Enquirer, and in hundreds of books, exhibits, web sites, and calendars around the world. Noyes Museum of Art in Oceanville

If fashion is your thing and you're going to be taking a last-minute summer trip down to the Jersey Shore this weekend and spending all day at the beach has gotten a little stale, you might want to check out the "Seams: Contemporary Art to Wear" exhibition at The Noyes Museum of Art in Oceanville - 15 minutes from Atlantic City. The exhibition only runs through Aug. Sunday. Co-curated by Toms River mixed media and textile artist Joanie San Chirico, "Seams" presents the works of 12 established and emerging artists from New Jersey, New York, Connecticut, Massachussetts, Iowa and Canada, who create pieces using experimental textile techniques and cutting-edge technologies as well as traditional sewing and weaving.
"Seams" considers the idea of clothing as expression, identity and as a form of communication. The creative intersection of art, fashion and design is explored using a variety of materials and conceptual presentations. It highlights works in which the artist go beyond the everyday utility of clothing to confront a range of important themes such as self-expression, social connection and domestication. Included are the works of New Jersey artists Marisa Dipaola, Diana Savona and Kerr Grabowski.
