EXPERIENCE SMOOTH, COOL JAZZ AT THE NOYES MUSEUM
The sounds of the New Jersey Saxophone Quartet will fill The Noyes Museum of Art during a special concert on February 24, 2007 from 3 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. The concert, which includes lively interaction with the musicians, features Frank Mazzeo on soprano saxophone, Greg Riley on alto saxophone, Todd Groves on tenor saxophone and Chad Smith on baritone saxophone. Tickets, which may be purchased in advance or at the door for $5, include light refreshments.
Quartet members are professional musicians and educators with diverse backgrounds. They incorporate diverse genres from classical to jazz and popular styles as evidenced on their two recordings “Introducing the New Jersey Saxophone Quartet” and their latest, “Jersey Sure.” The Quartet, founded in 2003, has performed at the North American Saxophone Alliance Biennial Celebration at the University of North Carolina, Blue Ridge Jazz Festival in Virginia and the 2006 World Saxophone Congress in Ljubljana, Slovenia, as well as universities, performing arts centers and schools throughout the region. The Quartet has had compositions written specifically for them by the grammy-award winning composer Bob Mintzer, New Jersey composer Mark Zuckerman and Billy Kerr. The Noyes Museum of Art was founded in 1983 to collect, preserve and exhibit American fine art, crafts and folk art with an emphasis on New Jersey artists and folk art forms, reflecting the area's long traditions, history, landscape and culture. The Museum is located one and a half miles south of Historic Smithville Village, off Route 9, on Lily Lake Road in Oceanville, NJ.
